Upstate New York’s Sweet Land Farm Provides Healthy, Fresh Produce for Finger Lakes B&B Visitors
Do you wonder how this Cayuga Lake bed and breakfast manages to produce such fresh and healthy breakfasts? As a member of the Sweet Land Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group, we have access to the best, freshest, local produce. Members from in and around the Ithaca, NY area receive regular shares during the summer and/or winter, and also have access to pick-your-own crops during the summer.
Three passive solar greenhouses are used to keep harvests coming all winter. Just-picked potatoes, carrots, kale, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, leeks, beets, celeriac, turnips, radishes, rutabagas, winter squash, and greens keep the kitchen humming and the cook happily experimenting with new recipes. Eating well doesn’t have to be complicated, and to help get you started, Sweet Land Farm also provides cookbook recommendations for folks who need ideas.
In the summer, Sweet Land welcomes members to enjoy the full farm experience. Volunteers can spend time working at the farm, which is a great experience for kids and helps them appreciate where the food they eat originates. The farm is also available for personal recreation, including walks and picnics. Summer crops are too numerous to list them all, but include green beans, edamame, several kinds of herbs, celery, eggplant, garlic, a wide variety of salad greens, onions, melons, peas, tomatoes, and a lovely assortment of flowers.
Finally, Sweet Land also offers farm-fresh eggs from hens that have access to a wide variety of foods, including favorite bugs and worms! The chickens are outside every day, and their housing is an airy, bottomless greenhouse.
If you’re not lucky enough to live in the Ithaca, New York area, this Cayuga Lake bed and breakfast innkeeper will happily cook you a deliciously healthy breakfast each morning that you are with us. We are proud to support local agriculture by being a member of Sweet Land’s CSA. In addition to Sweet Land’s offerings, fresh edible flowers from our own gardens garnish our breakfast plates. While you’re at the Inn, book a convenient, on-site massage for one or two, or consider reserving a soak in our wood-fired hot tub. We’re here to pamper you!
